La llegada de las técnicas modernas de representación por imagen, especialmente de la ecografía, la tomografía computarizada (TC) y la resonancia magnética (RM), ha reforzado enormemente la ya considerable importancia de la anatomía seccional. Todo el colectivo médico ha tenido que renovar su formación en relación con los aspectos y las relaciones de las estructuras anatómicas en los cortes transversales y sagitales. De hecho, el diagnóstico preciso, así como también la planificación detallada del tratamiento y de la radiología intervencionista, a menudo dependen del enfoque anatómico transversal. El Ellis de cortes anatómicos combina tres presentaciones de anatomía transversal: la de la sala de disección, la de la TC y la de la RM. En la página de la izquierda se muestra el corte anatómico obtenido en la sala de disección, con las estructuras importantes referenciadas e identificadas mediante números, mientras que en la derecha encontramos la correlación de ese corte, con las diferentes técnicas radiológicas junto a un esquema aclaratorio de las mismas. Además, un cuadro nos indica el nivel de la sección y otro en forma de esquema, nos indica la dirección de la misma, finalmente encontramos el novedoso cuadro de notas en el que mediante un texto breve se explica como se ha obtenido la muestra, así como los aspectos anatómicos mas relevantes tanto de esa sección como de las imágenes radiológicas.
